Product Description

With an emphasis on speed and versatility, the Sony Alpha a6600 is a sleek-yet-fully-featured APS-C-format mirrorless camera well-suited for both stills and video. Sporting a revised 24.2MP CMOS sensor, the a6600 is capable of producing high-resolution photos and up to UHD 4K video with no recording time limit, more efficient processing, and faster focusing. The 4D FOCUS system, which covers 84% of the image frame, utilizes 425 phase-detection points along with 425 contrast-detection areas for especially quick and intuitive performance along with Real-time Eye AF for both photos and video. Complementing both stills and video, 5-axis SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization minimizes the appearance of camera shake with all mounted lenses to support working with slower shutter speeds.

Beyond imaging capabilities, the a6600 also sports a robust magnesium alloy body that is dust- and moisture-resistant to permit working in harsh environments. The compact profile incorporates a high-resolution XGA Tru-Finder 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder for bright, clear, eye-level viewing, and this EVF features a 120-fps viewing mode for smooth tracking of fast-moving subjects. A rear 3.0" 921.6k-dot touchscreen LCD monitor is also available and has a tilting design to benefit from shooting from high and low working angles, and the touchscreen design allows for intuitive touch-to-focus control. For video, both headphone and microphone ports have been incorporated, too, for improved audio control. Additionally, for wireless remote control over the camera, or for just sharing imagery online, built-in Wi-Fi with NFC permits linking with a mobile device for intuitive wireless control.

24.2MP Exmor CMOS Sensor

A revised APS-C-format 24.2MP Exmor CMOS sensor realizes smooth, nuanced image quality with minimal noise and high sensitivity from ISO 100-32000, which can further be expanded to ISO 102400 for working in low-light conditions. The sensor features a unique design that utilizes thin copper wiring, enhanced circuit processing, and an enhanced front-end LSI to boost light-gathering abilities, reduce noise, and increase readout speeds to benefit video recording. The sensor and BIONZ X processor combination also avails a top continuous shooting rate of 11 fps with AF and AE and permits 16-bit recording with 14-bit raw file output for a wider tonal and color scale.

UHD 4K Video Recording in XAVC S Format

Internal recording of UHD 4K movies is possible in multiple frame rates up to 30 fps and, based on the Super35mm recording area and effective 6K resolution, oversampling renders greater detail and full pixel readout is possible, that is void of pixel binning, for higher quality imagery with reduced moiré and aliasing. Full-frame 4K recording has also been dramatically improved for finer quality when working at mid to high sensitivities to permit full use of the entire sensor width. Full HD 1080p recording is also supported in frame rates up to 120 fps, and both resolutions utilize the 100 Mbps XAVC S format contained within an MP4 wrapper with 4:2:0 sampling. The high-speed, 120 fps recording also enables 4x and 5x slow-motion movie recording with the frame rate set to either 30p or 24p. The a6600 also has no recording time limit, allowing for extended clip lengths. In addition to high-resolution internal recording, uncompressed HDMI output also enables the use of an optional external recorder for clean 4K recording with 4:2:2 sampling.

4K video recording also avails the ability to produce 8MP stills during playback by taking a frame grab from a movie and storing it as a separate file.

4D FOCUS

Covering nearly the entire sensor area, a powerful 4D FOCUS system incorporates 425 on-chip phase-detection points along with 425 contrast-detection areas for precise focusing in as little as 0.02 seconds. The density of focusing points from this hybrid AF system also enables High-density Tracking AF Technology, which is adept at tracking moving subjects in a variety of lighting conditions. Real-time Eye AF can be used to base focus on recognized subjects' eyes for portraits (either humans or animals) and is available for both AF-S and AF-C modes, for stills or video. The use of phase-detection points also enables the use of A-mount lenses via the optional LA-EA3 or LA-EA1 lens mount adapters with full AF compatibility.

The apt 4D FOCUS system also lends itself to a variety of focusing functions for refined accuracy, including Lock-on AF, which maintains focus on moving subjects throughout the use of a configurable frame that is set over the desired moving subject and Expand Flexible Spot, which employs neighboring focus points to retain focus on moving subjects even if the originally selected point loses focus. Autofocus can also be used in conjunction with the Focus Magnifier function for critical focus when homing in on minute subject details.

In addition to autofocus, the a6600 also features a Peaking MF function to benefit manual focus control by highlighted sharp edges of contrast for a more objective means of acquiring sharp focus.

5-Axis SteadyShot INSIDE Image Stabilization

Packed into the svelte body is a 5-stop effective 5-axis SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization system that compensates for five different types of camera shake encountered during handheld shooting of stills and video. This allows users to confidently use any lens, even adapted lenses, for critical imaging without encountering blur from camera shake.

For long focal lengths, the system will correct for pitch and yaw adjustments. Macro and high-magnification imagery, on the other hand, will benefit from the inclusion of horizontal and vertical shift compensation. All shooting styles will get usage out of the roll compensation. All 5 axes of stabilization will function at all times, even when used with third-party lenses and adapters or lenses with built-in optical stabilization.

Unparalleled AF performance, the key to beautiful shots

Fast and accurate autofocus captures fleeting moments in stunning detail, thanks to a combination of innovative Sony technologies. A total of 425 phase-detection AF points work in conjunction with contrast-detection AF to achieve a remarkable 0.02-s1 speed, while High-density AF Tracking Technology follows even erratically moving subjects. [1] Phase-detection AF coverage (425 points) [2] Contrast-detection AF coverage (425 points).

Real-time Tracking holds the focus on tracked subjects

When you're tracking a fast-moving subject, the camera's motion tracker uses an enhanced subject recognition algorithm (AI)3 that draws on color, pattern (brightness), distance (depth) and face/eye information to recognize, and maintain focus on, your subject. (1) Face [AI]  (2) Eye [AI]  (3) Color  (4) Pattern  (5) Distance  (6) Subject recognition algorithm.

Enhanced Real-time Eye AF supports portrait shooting

Real-time Eye AF detects and automatically focuses on the eyes of your subject when you half-press the shutter, and you can even prioritize your subject's left or right eye. When AF-C is set, it maintains a stable focus even when the face is partially hidden or backlit, or the subject is facing downward.

Real-time Eye AF for animal

The technology used in Real-time Eye AF has been adapted to support animal4 as well as human. When activated, this provides fast automatic detection and tracking of animals' eyes, with precise focus that had been difficult to achieve otherwise, all to give you great pet portraits and wildlife shots.

High speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking

Capture all the action with continuous shooting at up to 11 fps5. Even when using silent shutter6, or the live-view mode, up to 8 fps5 is possible. Display lag has been minimized, and up to 116 JPEG (Standard) images7 can be shot in each burst, with group display available in the playback mode.

Accurate autofocus in dim lighting

Highly accurate autofocus is possible even in dark settings, thanks to the camera's advanced AF algorithm. High AF sensitivity means reliable AF-S auto-focus all the way down to EV -28.

Focus Magnifier for finer focus adjustment in both MF/AF modes

When extra-accurate focus is called for, such as when you're taking macro shots, you can display a magnified view of the general area you want to focus on, then finely adjust the exact point of focus using the touchscreen or the focus point selector.

Easy manual focus with a clearly visible peaking function

The camera's peaking function color-highlights the most sharply focused section of the entire image area when you're using manual focus. Now blue has been added to the display's other peaking colors (red, yellow and white) to improve the visibility of in-focus areas when you're doing the delicate focusing required for macro or portrait shooting.

Built-in 5-axis optical image stabilization

The 5-axis in-body optical image stabilization mechanism used on our acclaimed full-frame cameras has been adapted for use as a stabilization unit for the APS-C sensor on this model. This system compensates for camera shake along five different axes – pitch and yaw, horizontal and vertical, and rotational (roll) – to ensure steadier still images and movies during hand-held shooting. A highly accurate gyro sensor provides an image stabilization effect equivalent to a shutter speed 5 steps9 faster. The feature allows you to zoom in on far-off subjects, snap detailed close-ups, capture night scenes, and more ― all with minimal blur from camera shake.

An innovative image-processing system

The camera's APS-C size, 24.2-megapixel10 Exmor CMOS sensor provides a wide sensitivity range and excellent low-noise performance. In conjunction with the latest-generation BIONZ X image processing engine, it delivers beautiful, high-resolution images with superb image clarity and texture reproduction.

Extraordinary image quality, low noise and a wide ISO range

The standard ISO sensitivity range has been extended to ISO 100–32000 (expandable ISO 50–102400 for stills). Improved imaging algorithms, detail reproduction technology and area-division noise reduction result in more realistic textures, better detail in shadow regions, and more lifelike colors, including human skin tones and natural plant colors.

14-bit RAW output with rich tonal gradation

True 14-bit RAW images are delivered via a high-performance LSI and the BIONZ X image processor. To retain the smoothest, most natural tonal gradations, all processing occurs at 16-bit, preventing any dithering or processing errors from being introduced into the final 14-bit RAW image output. [1] Image sensor [2] The latest high-speed front-end LSI [a] 16-bit image processing.

4K movie recording in high-bit-rate XAVC S format2

Super 35-mm format, 4K movie recording with full pixel readout and no pixel binning allows oversampling of around 2.4x11 the image information needed for 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160). By downscaling from the equivalent of 6K resolution, captured videos benefit from even more realism and depth. The high-bit-rate (up to 100 Mbps for 4K 30p/24p) XAVC S2 video codec ensures professional quality images in a consumer-friendly format.

Precise AF tracking with Real-time Eye AF, for better movies

Fast Hybrid AF brings high speed, accuracy and tracking performance to meet the stringent autofocus demands of 4K movies. AF tracking sensitivity can be adjusted for either stable focus or responsive refocusing, depending on the nature of the scene, and Touch Tracking lets you initiate tracking of a moving subject simply by touching the LCD screen. Real-time Eye AF is now also available for movies.

S-Gamut/S-Log shooting12

S-Log shooting12 gives you the flexibility to make more expressive movies by performing color grading in post-production. The S-Log3 and S-Log2 gamma curves feature a wide dynamic range (up to 1,300% larger than Rec. 709) that can help minimize blown highlights and crushed shadows. The S-Log3 gamma setting also provides an impressive 14 stops of dynamic range.

Creative movie-making options

Interval Shooting13 with a set interval between 1 and 60 seconds can be performed within the camera and used to create a time-lapse movie on a PC. You can also view the images using a simple variable-speed preview function directly on the camera. Slow motion (up to 5x) and quick motion (up to 60x) can also be recorded directly on the camera with no post-processing required14. Also, high-quality slow-motion movies can be created in post-production using high-speed Full HD recording at up to 120 fps.

External mic and audio input plus headphone jack

External microphones can be attached via the microphone jack, or use line input via XLR connectors with the separately available XLR adaptor kit. This enables connection with various high-end microphones for professional-level audio. In addition, a headphone jack is available so you can monitor the audio on movies as you record them.

Sophisticated features for easier movie-making

The α6600 is ready for professional videography workflows, with clean HDMI output and REC control, timecode (TC/UB), variable framerates, and proxy recording. In addition, a range of functions are included to enhance movie recording accuracy, such as the display of overlay markers or gridlines, zebra exposure metering, or ISO values when shooting with ISO Auto.

High-capacity Z battery for long-duration shooting

To support longer shooting sessions, the α6600 uses the NP-FZ100 high-capacity battery previously introduced with many of our full-frame cameras15, while retaining almost the same frontal-view dimensions as previous 6000-series models. Not only does it feature a total capacity around 2.2 times that of our standard battery, it also helps improve the grip ergonomics. The optional Multi Battery Adaptor Kit can accommodate up to four NP-FZ100 batteries for worry-free long-duration movie shooting.

Sturdy, durable construction for robust operation

The camera's low-vibration shutter mechanism is designed and tested to withstand around 200,000 shutter cycles16, and the body, top cover, front cover, internal frame, and rear cover use a lightweight but highly rigid magnesium alloy. Major buttons and dials are sealed, and casing components have an interlocked double-layer structure to minimize dust and moisture17.

Improved ergonomic grip

The thickness of the grip of the α6600 has been increased by 0.26" (compared to the previous model), and the area has been increased by 15%, to make it easier to grasp and hold. The construction material has also been upgraded for a more rigid feel, and the release button attachment angle has been altered for easier operation.

Custom functions for greater operability

Compared to the previous model, the camera has one additional Custom button (C button), bringing the total to four. Now 11 buttons (increased from ten) can be custom-assigned to any of 91 shooting or replay functions. Frequently used functions can also be assigned to the control dial and control wheel with My Dial. My Menu allows flexible assignment of 30 menu items, and the custom settings screen helps keep track of everything. Helpful guides for menu items are also available with a single button press on the menu screen.

Prioritized display of AF area and ISO display limit

On the AF area-setting screen, a new feature enables display of only the focus area types that you use frequently. Another new feature on the ISO setting screen displays only frequently used ISO ranges. This allows for more efficient settings adjustment while shooting. These features can also be used when "Switch Focus Area" is assigned to a Custom button.

Greater control over white balance settings

If set in advance, auto white balance can now be locked or unlocked at any time, for more consistent colour tones when there are multiple light sources. Custom setting of white balance has been simplified, and you can now select an AWB priority setting when shooting with incandescent lighting – either warmer Atmosphere Priority, or White Priority for purer whites.

Easier ratings and protection from deletion

In playback mode, still images can be given a rating or protected from deletion. Both these functions can be accessed via pre-assigned custom keys.

Versatile flash functions

When shooting with compatible wireless flash units, rear-curtain sync18 and slow sync can be selected, increasing your creative options for lighting.

1:1 aspect ratio ideal for social-media shots

In addition to 3:2 and 16:9 aspect (width-to-height) ratios, you can also select a 1:1 aspect ratio – ideal for sharing images on social media platforms. This means that you no longer need to hand-trim your images after shooting to prepare to post them on social media.

Alpha 6600 premium E-mount APS-C camera

The α6600 packs great performance and features in its compact body, with the world's fastest1 AF speed, broad AF coverage and subject tracking. Five-axis optical image stabilization ensures stunning image quality for high-resolution 4K HDR (HLG) movie recording2 and stills, while the high-capacity battery and mic and headphone jacks support your filmmaking.
Alpha 6600 premium E-mount APS-C camera

Smooth display on the OLED viewfinder

The high-contrast, high-resolution XGA OLED Tru-Finder provides high visibility, fine details even in dark areas, accurate colors and smooth motion, with display framerate options of either 60 fps or 120 fps. Standard and high-quality settings are available for both the viewfinder and the LCD monitor.

180°-tiltable LCD screen with versatile touch functions

The high-resolution, 921k-dot LCD has a 3.0-type screen and tilts up a full 180° and down by 74°, for easy framing of selfie shots and vlogs. The LCD's intuitive touch operations include Touch Pad (to smoothly move the focus point), Touch Focus (to set the focus point), Touch Shutter (to release the shutter), and Touch Tracking (to activate Real-Time AF).

One-touch remote, One-touch sharing, Location Information Link19

The One-touch remote feature turns your mobile device into a viewfinder and remote control. One-touch sharing allows photos and videos to be transferred to your device for social media sharing. The camera can also use your mobile phone's location data via Bluetooth® to geo-tag your images19. (These mobile device features are available via Sony's Imaging Edge Mobile app20.).

I cannot say enough good things about Pixel Connection. I've bought multiple camera bodies - new and used - from them, along with several lenses, and they simply cannot be beat. Super helpful on the phone, good prices, and willing to work with customers to make the right solution happen. Pixel Connection is where I look first when buying camera equipment.

I am a cosmetic dentist so my photography is very important to me. I needed my camera set up for ease of use and custom settings. Jesse and Sam are so knowledgeable. Those two men helped me quickly and the Pixel store is open until 7 pm so I was able to get this done before my next working day! I also noticed Pixel has everything one needs for cameras, video and audio, social media, drones and even film! Check this store out for yourself for quality service and products!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My latest experience with ThePixelConnection was absolutely phenomenal. Matt and Ari went above and beyond to ensure I got the camera I needed, even when it seemed impossible. The item I needed was out of stock everywhere else, but they didn’t stop there—they took the extra step to contact the manufacturer directly and managed to secure a new unit straight from the factory. Thanks to their incredible effort, I received my camera just in time for an important event. What truly sets ThePixelConnection apart is the personal touch they bring to every interaction. Unlike my experiences with B&H—which, while efficient and resourceful, often feel very clinical and transactional—ThePixelConnection makes you feel like a genuinely valued customer. I’ve worked with B&H for years and spent a small fortune with them, but if ThePixelConnection has what I need, they’re always my first choice. Their team is passionate, knowledgeable, and deeply committed to ensuring you get exactly what you’re looking for. Matt, in particular, is a seasoned professional with extensive expertise in photography and their product lineup. His guidance and dedication made the entire process effortless and stress-free. If you’re looking for exceptional service from a team that truly values its customers, look no further than ThePixelConnection. They’ve earned my loyalty, and I can’t recommend them highly enough!

“I have pre-ordered two cameras with Pixel Connection and both times have been wonderful experiences. Staff have been kind and helpful both times. They provided updates weekly and even provided me an option to purchase a different color camera when it became available before my pre-ordered color. They were also prompt with their shipping once payment was completed!”
