Ultra-Compact Design with a Bright f/1.4 Aperture

Measuring just 2.2" in length and weighing only 13.2 oz, this lens combines a fast f/1.4 aperture and autofocus capabilities in a compact, all-metal body. Its portable design makes it an excellent companion for everyday shooting, travel, and portrait photography.

One FLD element and three aspherical elements help minimize optical aberrations, distortion, and ghosting for clear, refined image quality. The wide aperture also allows photographers to work in challenging lighting conditions while achieving a shallow depth of field and beautifully blurred backgrounds.

Rich, Expressive Image Rendering

Optimized for shooting wide open at f/1.4, the lens delivers a distinctive rendering style characterized by gentle softness within the focus plane, smooth bokeh, and attractive background transitions. Inspired by the character of classic lenses, its rendering creates a natural sense of depth and three-dimensionality throughout the frame.

Rotary Direct Drive Autofocus System

To deliver autofocus functionality with a large f/1.4 aperture while maintaining a compact profile, Sigma developed its Rotary Direct Drive motor system. This innovative whole-lens focusing mechanism uses circularly arranged coils and magnets that follow the shape of the lens barrel, minimizing additional bulk while providing a slim, high-torque design.

The system supports responsive focusing and allows photographers to switch to manual focus by simply turning the focus ring. However, its autofocus operation is slower than Sigma's STM and HLA systems, making it less suitable for video applications that require fast, continuous autofocus.
