Optimized for Handheld Use

Designed to overcome the traditional size and weight challenges associated with super-telephoto lenses, the FE 600mm f/6.3 GM OSS is remarkably easy to carry and use throughout a full day of handheld shooting. Its 600mm focal length provides the reach needed for distant subjects, while the f/6.3 maximum aperture helps maintain a shorter and lighter lens design without significantly compromising light-gathering capability when paired with Optical SteadyShot stabilization.

The use of a single front element shifts the lens's center of gravity toward the camera body, creating a well-balanced setup that is comfortable to use handheld.

Measuring just 9.5" in length and weighing approximately 2.2 lb, the lens has a profile closer to a 70-200mm f/2.8 than a traditional super-telephoto prime. Compared with the FE 600mm f/4, the f/6.3 version weighs 4.5 lb less and is 8.2" shorter, making it significantly more portable for field use.

Built for speed, precision, and reliability, the FE 600mm f/6.3 GM OSS combines a responsive autofocus system with advanced optical stabilization, making it well suited for sports and wildlife photography without requiring a tripod.

Two XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors provide fast, responsive autofocus performance while maintaining quiet and smooth operation. The focusing system supports continuous still-image and video shooting speeds of up to 120 fps.

Full-time manual focus override is available, while the internal focusing design keeps the overall length of the lens consistent during operation and helps promote faster focusing performance.

A focus range limiter and four focus hold buttons provide greater control over autofocus responsiveness, allowing you to customize operation and stay focused on fast-moving subjects.

The advanced Optical SteadyShot image stabilization system helps produce sharp imagery when shooting handheld and provides three stabilization modes: Standard (Mode 1), Panning (Mode 2), and Moving Subjects (Mode 3).

When paired with the 1.4x teleconverter, the lens provides an effective focal length and maximum aperture of 840mm f/8. The 2.0x teleconverter extends the effective focal length to 1200mm f/11, providing even greater reach for distant wildlife, sports, and other subjects.
