Its long reach pairs with a modest maximum aperture range to render to a relatively lightweight and portable design and, as a G series lens, optical quality, focus speed, and attention to handling details are also priorities of this well-rounded super-tele zoom.
- Designed for full-frame E-mount cameras, this super-telephoto can also be used on APS-C models to achieve an equivalent 300-900mm focal length range.
- Maximum aperture range of f/5.6-6.3 helps minimize size and weight while providing excellent performance in a variety of applications.

A focus range limiter switch makes it possible to limit the lens's autofocus range to 2.4 through 10 meters, 10 meters to infinity, or allow full-range autofocus with no limit. This can speed up autofocus in some situations by preventing the lens from focusing on subjects outside the target range.
