Product Description

The Nikon Nikkor-H Auto 50mm f/2 lens features an optical design designated by the "H" for "Hexa," indicating its composition of six elements arranged in four groups. This prime lens offers a fast maximum aperture of f/2, which provides significant light-gathering capability and allows for shallow depth-of-field control, making it well-suited for low-light photography and portraiture. The lens construction is primarily all-metal, prioritizing structural integrity and a solid, tactile experience during manual operation.

As a Pre-AI (Pre-Aperture Indexing) optic, this lens incorporates the classic "rabbit ears" meter coupling prong, designed for mechanical linkage with the exposure metering systems of vintage Nikon film cameras like the F and F2 series. The "Auto" designation signifies its automatic diaphragm mechanism, which maintains a fully open aperture for bright, easy viewing and precise focus, and then automatically stops down to the pre-selected f-stop at the exact moment the shutter is triggered. Manual aperture selection is handled via a dedicated, clicked ring at the rear of the barrel.

The lens barrel features a deeply ridged, well-dampened focus ring that offers a long rotation throw, allowing for high-precision manual focus adjustments. The front of the lens utilizes a standard 52mm filter thread, making it widely compatible with common vintage-standard filters. It offers a minimum focusing distance of 0.6 meters (approximately 2 feet), and the optical formula is specifically tuned to produce high-contrast, sharp images across the frame, particularly when stopped down slightly from the maximum f/2 setting.
