As the first power zoom lens in the X Series lineup, it provides smooth electronic zoom control with selectable zoom speeds for seamless focal length adjustments. During video recording, the lens maintains a consistent zoom speed for more natural-looking transitions. Its retractable construction automatically extends when the camera powers on and retracts when not in use for added convenience.

The optical design incorporates two extra-low dispersion elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and color fringing, along with three aspherical elements that help reduce distortion and spherical aberrations for improved sharpness and accurate rendering. A Super EBC coating further enhances image quality by reducing flare and ghosting, ensuring excellent contrast and color fidelity even in challenging lighting conditions.
