Product Description

The Canon EOS 50D SLR Digital Camera features an APS-C-sized 15.1-megapixel CMOS sensor for superb-quality images and the DIGIC 4 Image Processor for excellent color reproduction, fast processing, and improved high-ISO performance. It also features a 3.0-inch Clear View LCD monitor, Live View functionality with Face Detection Live mode, automatic image-correction settings, and an HDMI output.

The 15.1-megapixel image sensor delivers highly detailed images, while redesigned photodiodes and microlenses improve light-gathering capabilities for better high-ISO performance and reduced noise. The camera offers a standard ISO range of 100–3200, expandable to ISO 6400 and 12800. The Integrated Cleaning System includes a Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit with a fluorine coating to help reduce, repel, and remove unwanted dust from the sensor. Dust Delete Data can also be used to identify and remove remaining dust spots during post-processing with Canon's Digital Photo Professional software.

The 50D is fast thanks to the DIGIC 4 processor, allowing continuous shooting at up to 6.3 fps, with a maximum burst of approximately 90 JPEG images when using a compatible UDMA CompactFlash card. Canon's wide-area AF system features 9 individual cross-type AF points, allowing photographers to capture sharp action sequences even in challenging lighting conditions. The DIGIC 4 processor also provides 14-bit image processing for smooth gradations and natural-looking colors, along with fast startup times and quick image review after shooting.

The 3.0" Clear View VGA LCD with approximately 920,000 dots provides a large, high-resolution display for image review and accurate focus checks. By switching to Live View mode, photographers can view a real-time image on the LCD for shooting from awkward angles or for remote shooting when connected to a computer. Live View provides three autofocus modes: Quick AF, Live AF, and Face Detection Live AF, which can optimize focus on faces detected in the frame. The camera also features an HDMI output for viewing images and video on an HDTV.

Even with all of these advanced features, the EOS 50D retains Canon's intuitive EOS menu system, along with a Quick Control screen for easy access to commonly adjusted settings.

Creative Auto mode provides automatic focus and exposure while allowing users to make creative adjustments to settings such as background blur. Altogether, the Canon EOS 50D is an excellent DSLR camera for advanced amateur photographers and entry-level professionals.
