The Canon BP-300 is an external battery grip designed for select Canon 35mm film SLR cameras, most commonly the Canon EOS Elan 7 / 7E series. It attaches to the base of the camera and improves both handling and battery capacity, making it especially useful for longer shooting sessions or vertical compositions.
Functionally, it serves two main purposes: extended power and improved ergonomics. The grip allows the camera to be powered by either four AA batteries or two CR123A lithium batteries, depending on configuration. It also includes integrated vertical shooting controls, including a shutter release button and AE/FE lock button, which makes portrait-oriented shooting much more comfortable and stable compared to holding the camera body alone.
The BP-300 also adds a more substantial grip profile, improving balance—especially when using heavier lenses. Like most battery grips of its era, it mounts directly to the camera’s tripod socket and battery compartment, effectively extending the body downward.
