A trio of Sigma DC Contemporary primes available for Sony E, Canon EF-M, Fuji X-Mount, M4/3, and L-Mount are now compatible with Nikon's Z-Mount! Sigma has announced that the 16mm f/1.4, 30mm f/1.4, and 56mm f/1.4 (all DC DN Contemporary) will be available for Nikon Z-Mount. While it took some time for Sigma to dip its toes into the Z-Mount market, the wide/normal/tele prime options for APS-C are a nice variety of lenses to suit many photographers. Optically, the lenses are the same as as the other mounts, and feature Sigma's stepping motor for solid AF performance and quiet autofocus. While these aren't "new" lenses, it is a quick way for Sigma to get into the Z-Mount game - though Nikon's APS-C Z series cameras likely only make up a small amount of Z series sales.
The lenses are small and compact and fit the Nikon APS-C cameras well. Off of the camera, it is obvious to see that the lenses were "modified" to fit a Z-Mount vs designed from scratch. The base flares out considerably to fit the Z-Mount.
With Nikon's Z-Mount APS-C lens lineup being pretty barebones right now, having 3 fast primes that can cover almost any subject was a smart move by Sigma, especially based on the flexibility of the mount. It will be interesting to see if this will continue with newer Sigma DC DN releases like the 18-50mm f/2.8 - a fantastic little fast zoom lens. At the end of the day, the bigger question is, when will Sigma release Z-Mount full frame lenses?
