The Konica IIIM is the final and most advanced iteration of the classic Konica "III" series, representing a pinnacle in fixed-lens 35mm rangefinder engineering. It is equipped with a high-performance Hexanon 50mm f/1.8 lens, a six-element optic renowned for its exceptional sharpness and color rendition. The camera features a unique Seikosha-SLV leaf shutter, which provides a full range of speeds from 1 second to 1/500th of a second, plus Bulb. Notably, the leaf shutter design allows for flash synchronization at all speeds, making it a versatile tool for photographers utilizing fill-flash in daylight.

A standout feature of the IIIM is its sophisticated, life-size (1:1) bright-line viewfinder, which allows for shooting with both eyes open. The viewfinder includes parallax-corrected framelines that automatically shift as the lens is focused, ensuring accurate framing for close-up subjects. This model also introduced a built-in, dual-range selenium cell light meter coupled to the shutter and aperture settings via a Light Value (LV) system.

The ergonomics of the IIIM are defined by its distinctive front-mounted film advance lever, located on the left side of the lens barrel (from the user's perspective).
